Tanzanian Acrobats To Make Second Phoenix Appearance This Weekend

PHOENIX, AZ — The Zuzu African Acrobats, a troop from Tanzania, will have three shows this weekend in Phoenix. It will be the group’s second-ever appearance in the city.

At 7 pm Friday and Saturday and at 1 pm Sunday, the group will be performing at the Madison Center for the Arts, 5601 N 16th St. Tickets, which range in price from $19 to $49, remain available for each show. The appearance of the troop is in celebration of Black History Month, according to show promoters.

“ZuZu Acrobats performances are a blend of circus-style acrobatics and popular dance, set to high energy beats,” the theater said in a release. “Their performances incorporate almost pyramid building, limbo, contortion, bottle balancing, tumbling, chair stacks, comedy and more.”

Attendees also can expect dish spinning, cyr wheel, gumboot dance, unicycle/ bicycle tricks and a special parade of African animal puppets.

According to show promoters, each acrobat has graduated from the Baba Watoto School for Performing Arts, which is internationally renowned for producing the highest quality performers.

Representatives from the Madison Center said ZuZu acrobats shows are “a fun experience for the entire family,” and they have called the performances —which are based on 2000 years of history — “a magical journey.”

More information about these performances and other upcoming shows is available on the Madison Center for the Arts website.
