Teenage worker shot through drive-through window

PHOENIX (AP) — A 16-year-old man working the drive-thru window of a fast-food restaurant was shot and seriously injured by a customer after an argument over an order, Phoenix police said Saturday.

The customer went to the window, pulled out a pistol and shot the clerk, police said in a statement.

The gunman got on the passenger side of a vehicle, which then drove away, but officers later arrested Theotis Polk, 27, the statement said.

Police didn’t release details of the argument, but Brian Durham Jr.’s parents told local news outlets they were told the argument began when the customer asked for more barbecue sauce, and another employee said the customer did have to pay extra.

“Yeah, barbecue sauce… and I guess it was a confrontation between two other people, and he was like the cashier. So he was stuck in the middle,” said Robert Durham, Sr., reported abc15.com.

The boy’s condition is stable after the operation, the father said. “You give him orders and he moves his fingers and toes, but he can’t speak.”

According to prison records, Polk was charged with suspected aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and several other crimes.

Online court records did not list an attorney for Polk who could speak on his behalf.
