Teenager arrested with loaded handgun at school

A Massachusetts school was locked down after a teenager was found to be carrying a firearm Thursday afternoon. 5 Investigates has learned the student was in possession of the weapon as he entered Phoenix Charter Academy. Police said the 16-year-old was arrested after officials found he was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun. School staff had called officers after notifying something seemed wrong. Officers said they don’t know why the student had the weapon and there was no knowledge of any threats. “Unfortunately, we had to remove a student today that did not intend any harm to the school, but did bring a weapon into school,” Beth Anderson, the superintendent of the Phoenix Charter Academy Network said. “He is now in custody. And again, our staff was able to handle that in the way that they were trained to handle that.”The school was locked down on Thursday afternoon.Chelsea police are now investigating how the teenager got access to the gun.
