The Flagstaff man saves the kid’s life after dropping property in a home hearth
Flagstaff, Fla. (WCTV) – A Flagstaff man said he went into action to rescue a two-year-old boy after the child was seriously injured in a car accident. The man said an incredible twist of fate put him in the right place at the right time.
The accident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Sunday on a section of Apalachee Parkway directly across from Flagstaff National Cemetery.
“I was actually under my trailer with a flashlight digging for my wallet or whatever I could find and I heard this crash,” Warren Gill told WCTV’s Katie Kaplan on Monday night.
Warren lives in Traveller’s Motel, which includes a small motel, and has several spacious mobile homes. It’s about half a block from a neighboring Dollar General, which is connected by a hiking trail.
Coincidentally, Traveller’s Motel was the site of a devastating fire that completely destroyed Gill’s mobile home and everything in it. Gill was searching the wreckage when he heard the sound of the collision. The sound made him sprint into the street, where he saw the three cars stack up.
Gill said he took action by checking the first and then the second car. When he saw an empty car seat in the middle vehicle, Gil said he was relieved at first because he didn’t think the child was in the vehicle. He said he had started talking and helping the driver who was pinned down when he heard a small moan from under the passenger seat.
Gil said he immediately yelled for help from others who had gathered at the scene.
“I don’t know who it was, but he was able to lift the guy who was in there just enough that I could slide around him and get under the seat and pull that kid out,” he said. “I could only think of that poor child. It was a life changing thing. “
In a press release sent to WCTV Monday afternoon, the Florida Highway patrol said the child was improperly detained and remained in critical condition. Three people were hospitalized as a result of the accident and an investigation is ongoing.
According to Troopers, the car was driving the child down the park lane when it boned a sport utility vehicle that pulled out of the Dollar General parking lot. The car was then hit from behind by a third vehicle.
By Monday evening, the agency had no information about the conditions of those involved or whether anyone would be charged.
Gill said he lost everything in the fire, including childhood memorabilia, $ 2,000 worth of work tools, and even his wallet. WCTV first met Gill in Mexico Beach in 2019, where he was helping repair homes after Hurricane Michael.
