The Phoenix Gardens household was made homeless after a hearth ravaged their dwelling – NBC 6 South Florida

A family’s home in Phoenix Gardens was destroyed on Wednesday evening after a fire pierced the residence.

The family escaped the flames unscathed, but are left home after the fire destroyed the interior of the house.

At the time of the fire, there were three adults and two children in the house on the 17000 block on NW 12th Ave. The incident happened just after 11 p.m., officials say.

According to the homeowner, the fire was started by one of the children who was playing with matches or a lighter before the incident.

The homeowner’s grown son awoke to the smell of smoke and got everyone out of the house safely.

The family says there is no smoke detector in the house. They say the incident serves as a warning for other homeowners to make sure they have smoke alarms installed in the event of a fire.
