The COVID-19 roller coaster continues, although the numbers remain low overall – Yuma Pioneer

We’re still going up and down on the COVID-19 cases.
Yuma County has seen an increase in cases over the past two weeks, but the last pre-press update showed that the number of new cases has fallen again.

There were up to 15 new cases in the county in seven days following the May 1 update on the nchd.org watch face. However, the number of new cases over seven days had dropped to eight since the May 6 update. Test positivity was also down, from 6.1 percent above the Centers for Disease Control’s 5 percent threshold to 3.1 percent by May 6. The county actually saw tests increase to 268, up from 30 in the past three days.
Yuma County had its first COVID-19 hospitalization in a while. Active cases were at 30 for the county.
Overall, northeast Colorado’s six counties – Yuma, Washington, Phillips, Sedgwick, Logan, and Morgan – saw their new cases decrease to 55 in seven days, down from 31 since the May 6 update on nchd.org. Phillips had a spike, jumping to 18 estimated active cases last week, but he had seen that drop to seven on May 6 while Washington was down to 12, and Sedgwick saw that jump from six estimated active cases to 14. The the two largest counties in the Logan and Morgan area had 61 and 65, respectively.
Vaccinations are still available in the county and region. Earlier this week there was a vaccination bus in Otis, Yuma and Anton. The Yuma District Hospital & Clinics has a vaccination clinic for Friday May 7th using the Moderna vaccine. There is a link to register on the YDHC Facebook page.
Yuma County now has more than a quarter of its population aged 16 and over fully immunized, and more than 30 percent with at least one dose. By May 7, 3,158 residents had at least one dose and 2,754 were fully immunized. The vast majority, 75 percent, who have been vaccinated are white. Hispanics make up 15 percent.
65 percent of those who get a shot are 50 years or older. More women than men were vaccinated, 53 to 46 percent.
