The J&J vaccination hiatus won’t cause shortages, but more went local news to high-risk locations in the Tucson area

This index is designed to help officials identify areas that need additional assistance in preparing, weathering, and recovering from disaster or hazardous events.

People in districts with the greatest social vulnerability have so far been vaccinated much less often than people in districts with lower susceptibility.

Each neighborhood’s social vulnerability is rated on a scale from 0 to 1, with higher numbers indicating greater vulnerability. Pima County has more neighborhoods with higher social vulnerability scores than neighborhoods with lower social vulnerability scores.

People in the most vulnerable areas, with a score of 0.75 or greater, were vaccinated at a rate of about 297 per 1,000 people.

Meanwhile, people in the least at risk neighborhoods with a score of 0.25 or less were vaccinated at a rate of 562 per 1,000 people.

“We know that there have been more cases and more cases of COVID and death in areas of higher social vulnerability,” said Jess Seline, the county’s health equity program manager.

“So it’s roughly the same tune as the one that unfortunately played out during the whole of the pandemic.”

Pima County’s health authorities are addressing this issue by deciding where to send mobile vaccination clinics to neighborhood based on COVID-related metrics such as case and death rates based on COVID-related metrics in the neighborhood. You want to send these clinics to where people need them most and otherwise you may have trouble accessing a vaccine.
