The Lombardi Trophy arrives in Tampa to open the NFL Tremendous Bowl Expertise

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The weeklong celebration leading to the return of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the big game is underway after the iconic Vince Lombardi Trophy arrived at the NFL Super Bowl Experience on the Tampa Riverwalk on Friday afternoon.

“Pretty proud to be able to deliver this to Tampa Bay and let go of Bucs,” said FedEx team member Craig Sniffen. “Let’s see if we can take it home too.”

Sniffen was honored to make the special achievement in his 27 year career with FedEx.

“This is a shimmer of hope given the fears that have been rising across the region over the past year or more,” he told 8 On Your Side after removing the trophy from his truck. “Let’s just hope this brings some joy to some of the people who have had tough times.”

The NFL Super Bowl Experience is both a football amusement park and a history museum.

Reservations are sold out due to the pandemic with the NFL’s limitation capacity, but there are other free events open to the public at Curtis Hixon Park.

Christina Allen has been a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since childhood in Tampa. Together with her mother and sister, she posed for photos with the Lombardi Trophy.

“It’s beautiful, Tampa did a great job,” she said of the Super Bowl Experience. “We have just commented how nice, how everyone is distributed, the workers, everyone has done a great job.”

Gasparilla could be postponed, but the NFL is using the pirate ship with a laser light show in front of the Tampa Convention Center.

In just nine days, every Buccaneers fan is hoping for a fairy tale book that ends in the historic first Super Bowl played in a team’s home stadium.

“We couldn’t ask for a better season in the Tampa Bay area,” said Allen. “From the Rays to the Lightning to the Bucs, I mean it was just a dream come true for Tampa.”

Both the NFL and the City of Tampa require visitors to wear a face mask at all outdoor Super Bowl events.
