The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office is graduating new auxiliary officers from Navajo County
NAVAJO COUNTY – The Navajo County’s Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers, a nonprofit organization, are often the ones to be sought out when the NCSO needs additional traffic control or other community-related assignment.
And they’re not just adults with the resources to devote their time to the SAV. It’s young people, some teenagers, who volunteer their time without expecting any reward.
On Friday May 21, the Heber / Overgaard Sheriff’s Auxiliary celebrated its 30th graduation from the Navajo County’s Sheriff’s Volunteer Academy.
“The class of 20 on the squad was one of the largest in SAV history. The group included both adults and junior SAVs (ages 13-18) and two St. John’s Police Department volunteers. Nearly 80 people attended the celebration, including family, friends, media, and dignitaries.
“The Sheriff’s Auxiliary is community support for the sheriff’s office in Navajo County. You are the organization that does more than just make cottage clocks or give presentations to schoolchildren on crime prevention.
“In its 30-year history, the organization has at least half a dozen other programs that support the community free of charge,” said a recent announcement of a recent graduation from young volunteers.
The first of two junior SAV academies in 2021 hosted seven new junior sheriff auxiliary officers, ”the announcement said.
One of the candidates said, “I joined the SAVs because I want to help ease the burden on MPs in the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office operates and patrols an area of approximately 10,000 square miles. I also want to give something back to the community that has given me so much. We SAVs support our sheriff because he supports us. He enables us to support the community like the SAVs do, just like him. “
SAV representatives added that the Junior SAV youth program, enjoying its sophomore senior year with more than three times the cadets, was impressive.
“This class brought together seven teenagers who trained and studied with the adult SAVs. The last class only had two. “
SAV junior cadets learned about crime prevention, traffic control and effective communication in the community and ended the month-long academy with certification in CPR / AED and first aid.
