The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan ahead for the complete closure of Interstate 17 in both directions as traffic will be diverted north to the new north side of the bridge on Central Avenue, south of downtown Phoenix. Drivers should also plan to close nearby ramps.
I-17 going north between I-10 going west on “Split” and Seventh Avenue is planned Closed from Monday, August 30th to Wednesday, September 1st, in the morning from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. At the same time, the following ramp closures apply:
- The I-17 driveways north on Seventh and 16th Streets
- The east and west facing I-10 leads at the I-10 / I-17 “Split” junction to the I-17 in the north
- detour: Motorists should take Interstate 10 west between I-17 “Split” near 24th Street and I-10 / I-17 “Stack” intersection
Southbound I-17 is expected to be closed between Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street from 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 31 through September 1, 4:00 a.m. Wednesday. The following ramp locks apply simultaneously:
- The I-17 driveways south on Seventh and 19th Avenues
- detour: Motorists should use I-10 heading east between the I-10 / I-17 “Stack” interchange and I-17 “Split” near 24th Street
When the work is complete, I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes north between Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street as it travels over the new north side of the bridge on Central Avenue.
ADOT advises drivers slower and to act with caution around construction personnel and equipment during the work.
