The Phoenix Force has finally chosen his new host in avenger # 44: echo. The Phoenix Force is a cosmic unit of death and rebirth, one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. As the goddess Hela explained: “Existence is binary. Alpha-Omega. Chaos order. Beginning-end. Life-death. Phoenix is the passion of creation. Dark phoenix, the cold fire that brings it to an end.” This is why the phoenix is both creator and destroyer, and so many human hosts struggle not to reach the full Dark Phoenix when wielding its power.
The phoenix has returned to earth in search of a new host, and it has taken a strange approach to attracting it. This cosmic being has pitted numerous Marvel heroes and villains against each other in a strange tournament, although it wasn’t particularly clear what it was looking for in a host. In fact, Doctor Doom was the only one to realize that the phoenix had its own unfathomable agenda and forfeited its match against Captain America when he concluded that the phoenix was not looking for his particular character traits. The action continued to escalate and the rounds became more brutal. In Avengers # 44, the Phoenix Force finally made their pick.

The Phoenix Force’s new host is street-level superhero Echo, an Indian traditionally portrayed as a minor character in Daredevil comics. The timing is favorable to say the least, as Echo will soon make her MCU debut, played by Alaqua Cox; Not only will she star on the Hawkeye Disney + TV series, but it has also been reported that she will have her own spin-off. It’s clear that Marvel Comics decided to significantly upgrade Echo’s profile prior to its introduction to live action.
Marvel took this opportunity to expand the Phoenix Force mythology as well, to reveal that the Phoenix Force is also the Thunderbird of Native American mythology. “The blood of the Cheyenne runs through my veins,” Echo thinks when she is granted the power of the Phoenix. “Like many of the indigenous tribes, my people have always believed in a winged spirit of change. A great firebird that brings summer. That protects us from the things that would feed on us, in the dark and in the sea of long, cold winters. Today, for better or for worse, I’ve become that change. ”It is reasonable to assume that Echo’s perspective on the phoenix is precisely why he chose her as his newest hostess, for she is down to earth come because a new winter is coming, in which Mephisto will gather his forces to plunge the earth into darkness. As interesting as this idea may be, it seems a bit disappointing in the context of the overall narrative, as Echo dropped out of the competition early and was brutally beaten by Namor, the Sub-Mariner – so violently that all other competitors heard her screams through their own temporary phoenix ties.
Avengers # 44 ends with Jean Gray making a telepathic effort to give Echo her advice. A shrewd way of marking the X-Men’s connection to the Phoenix Force came to an end in the Age of Krakoa, and Jason Aaron believes his story will make Echo as important as a host as Jean Gray. Given Jean’s iconic relationship with the phoenix, it will be fascinating to see if he can make it as an echo avenger The story goes on.
