The postseason / offseason drama continues – TheLeafsNation

It’s Wednesday and we brought you a special edition last week, so we’ve got two whole weeks of drama to catch up on! As we all know, hockey is very serious and has no drama (no soap operas!) So we have nothing to discuss.

Hey Yes exactly.

Leaf land

As always, we start with what happens at the Boys in Blue, even if the answer is Not Hockey. But there is drama.

I try to bury my head in the sand and ignore everything Zach Hyman to leave the talk of the Leafs, but it’s getting harder and harder to avoid. But first we wish him a happy birthday!

Happy Birthday to @MapleLeaf’s own @ZachHyman! Have a nice one! Hopefully a new contract extension is waiting for you as a gift! 🥳🥳🥳 #LeafsForever #zachhyman #leafsnation #Leafs pic.twitter.com/LyG0tLevwB

Now, yes, there is a lot of talk about whether and for what type of contract the Leafs will sign Hyman again. I’m just going to cry now.

Will Zach Hyman be a Maple Leaf next season? What deal would make sense to keep him in Toronto? @FriedgeHNIC joined the #WritersBloc with @SNJeffBlair & @richarddeitsch to discuss Hyman’s future, NHL travel exemption in Canada and more!

Leafs’ Twitter account has been pretty quiet, but they have announced a new baby signature:

This also happened. And a lot of people ask WTF?

Around the league

As the CN Tower kindly reminded us, the Habs are the team that made it out of Canada, just as we all expected, right? But believe it or not, the Habs that are sweeping the jets aren’t the most dramatic thing that happens on this series. No, this distinction applies Mark Scheifele.

To sum it up, he was banned from 4 games for this hit Jake Evans:

Which meant he was ready for the season.

Today he had the following to say about it:

“I thought I was going to be tried to be turned off by Phillip Danault,” says Mark Scheifele. “Instead, it was the player safety department that shut me down.”

What shows a lot of remorse and empathy, Amirit?

Speaking of playoffs, Bruins and Islanders are playing tonight, with the Bruins playing for their playoff lives. The Lightning have advanced and the Golden Knights are leading the Avs 3-2. Who do you think the last 4 will be?

The NHL is getting ready for awards season and we’re stuffing Renee Hess! Vote her for the @Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award:

Change the hockey culture

Some disturbing news from Chicago:

The NHL Blackhawks provided a positive letter of reference to a former coach despite knowing of his sexual assault, according to a lawsuit.
The coach joined a high school team where he allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old player. https://t.co/T5hr6a8HRc

Allowing people in positions of power to hold their place in the hockey community perpetuates these problems, and it has to change.

That’s all for now! We’ll meet next week when we look at a completely different playoff landscape.
