Border guards arrest a total of 2,071 migrants in less than a week

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents had a busy July 4th weekend with a total of 2,067 arrests.

On Monday, agents found their largest group of 156 migrants entering west of the San Luis port of entry.

On Tuesday, agents stopped a people smuggling attempt after four migrants were caught getting into a vehicle on Interstate 8 west of the Imperial Sand Dunes.

Agents tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver was unable to stop. The driver exited the Winterhaven exit and drove a mile along the California causeway before stopping. Agents say the driver tried to escape from the vehicle but was caught.

The driver faces charges of people smuggling. The four Mexican nationals are being returned to Mexico by agents under Title 42.
