“We’re trying to be COVID aware,” Thompson said. “According to the governor, we can be open at full capacity – that’s 280 people. You look around here, how the hell are you going to get 280 people in here during COVID? “

The museum club opened as a night club in 1936. Before that, the building was built in 1931 as a taxidermy shop. To this day, visitors encounter mounted animal heads resting on the building’s wooden frame – evidence of its rich history.

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, the museum club reopened under new ownership.

Some new renovations will be on offer as the club reopens, said bar manager Tony Garry. One planned extension is a large terrace that will flank the outside of the club and should be fully functional in warmer weather.

Food service, added under the previous owner, is another feature that a pick-me-up could see. During the pandemic, Douthit transformed the club from a bar into a restaurant.

“We’re going to bring the kitchen back, not because of that [pandemic], but because the owners want to reintroduce the kitchen. “Said Garry. “So we’re investigating this. That’s probably down the street sometime to bring a full kitchen. “

The management behind the bar should also remain familiar, as most of the staff had worked at the Museum Club prior to reopening, Thompson said. Laber wasn’t working on the bar when it closed, but said the staff are hoping to succeed this time despite pandemic restrictions.
