The Tucson couple support hurricane relief efforts in New Orleans
TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Phil Tartalone and Janine Gaboury, a married couple who call Tucson home, boarded a plane early Monday, September 20.
The couple head to New Orleans to help those affected by Hurricane Ida. Both are volunteers in the Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Tartalone will provide disaster health services while Gaboury will assist with mass supplies and nutrition.
Gaboury said this was the first time she’s been used, but it was something she had wanted to do for a long time.
“The Red Cross is helping people in real time as so many are experiencing incredible trauma and loss,” she said. “I am very happy to be there and help people, meet them face to face, help them get back to a place of comfort and maybe even see a smile!”
Last year Tartalone helped victims of Hurricane Laura in southwest Louisiana. He said it was “incredibly rewarding to help these people”.
“It’s a humbling experience to be involved with so many people, from so many agencies, all with a common goal,” he was quoted as saying.
