The Tucson Police Department released results of increased road racing enforcement
TUCSON (KVOA) – The Tucson Police Department released initial results of its “crackdown” on road races following a record request from N4T investigators.
According to the TPD, the records relate only to the special enforcement action for road racing from January 15 to February 28. The records show that 197 people involved in street races received 203 citations. According to the TPD, each quote can apply to up to five violations. In total, officers found 380 violations. Over speeding was the most common violation observed. In addition, illegal vehicle modifications and DUI were listed as violations.
It was January when Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus held a press conference announcing the department’s increased efforts to combat road racing after two reports from N4T investigators showed the seriousness of the problem. Previously, several Tucsonans told News 4 Tucson that they felt their complaints to TPD about road racing were being ignored.
We requested our documents from TPD on February 12th and only received the information on March 19th. We made a record request in December of the number of street racing-related arrests made near and near the La Estancia neighborhood on the east side of Tucson. This request has not yet received an answer.
