Thomas Michael O’Neil’s family had to report his death on January 8, 2021 at the age of 64. Tom was born in Phoenix, Arizona on December 26, 1956, and graduated from Maryvale High School and the University of Arizona. As a child, he was drawn to dangerous things like fire, speed, deep water, and things that explode. He was given a pilot’s license before getting a driver’s license and rode his bike to Glendale Airport for lessons. Gifted in math and science, he could identify any car, airplane, or weapon by make, model, and year. He was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting books. He became a certified medical technician at UofA and then traveled to many cities in the United States on the Hispanic Health Survey, a program run by the Census Bureau. He enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Jamaica. After returning to Tucson, he traveled to smaller towns in southern Arizona to do laboratory work. He lived on a site on Kleindale Road for many years and later worked for the Beacon Foundation. Tom is survived by siblings Daniel M. O’Neil and David J O’Neil and Mary Ann O’Neil as well as a niece, Georgia Behrend and nephew, Daniel Behrend. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
