The NCAA East Preliminary meet is one of two regional events, which serve as the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Athletes gain entry into the competition by having one of the top-48 best marks of the region (East or West) in their respective events. In order to advance to the final round in Eugene, Ore., an athlete must finish among the top-12 (per region) in their respective events.

Ahm qualifies for her second regional meet as the Holbæk, Denmark, native punched her ticket in the 10,000 meters. Ahm sits as the highest-ranked Phoenix athlete heading to the preliminaries at No. 28th in the 10,000-meters with her season-best time of 34:07.87 that she set at the Virginia Challenge on April 22.

Lorenz qualifies for her first regional meet with the redshirt sophomore set to compete in the 1,500 meters. The Kleinmachnow, Germany native was the Colonial Athletic Association champion in the 1,500-meters and is ranked 39th in the region at her personal-best time of 4:19.73 which was also set at the Virginia Challenge.

McGoogan rounds out the Phoenix qualifiers in the hammer throw as the 42nd-ranked athlete in the East region. The Jamestown, NC, native posted a personal record throw of 59.13m in the hammer at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier meet on May 15, breaking her own school record in the event. This will be McGoogan’s first trip to the East Preliminaries.

The four-day event will begin on May 25 with the men competing before the women take the stage on May 26. The top 12 athletes in each event from each region will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 8-11.
