Thunderstorms could occur in the Phoenix area on Tuesday
Thunderstorms could roll through parts of the Phoenix subway on Tuesday night, with the possibility of lightning, gusts of wind and dust bubbles, the National Weather Service said.
The 50% chance for storms ends around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, meteorologist Marvin Percha said, adding that northeastern parts of the Phoenix area would likely be hardest hit, including Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and Cave Creek.
“If this storm system gets through, we don’t expect more than an inch of rain anywhere,” said Percha.
Perca followed this window for possible storms, saying that less than a tenth of an inch additional precipitation is expected from around 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. In the meantime, wind speeds will be around 16 km / h, but could reach 32 km / h later in the day.
“Some slippery roads and local gusty winds cause potentially dangerous driving,” NWS Phoenix wrote in a tweet. “Just do it during rush hour.”
The high on Tuesday at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was around 11:30 a.m. at 66 degrees, Percha said. At 3 p.m. it dropped to 59 degrees and the low Tuesday night is expected to hit 49 degrees.
“The wind will settle to about 5 mph when we hit our low, so it doesn’t feel quite as lively as it sounds,” he said.
Phoenix is expected to warm up again Wednesday through Saturday and stay in the lower 70s before hitting the 80s again on Sunday morning.
