The Timbers got off to a strong start thanks to the efforts of Ikoba. He had a close-angle shot to start the game before scoring the goal in the 17th minute. Bonilla provided the template that Ikoba sent into the goal.

Phoenix reacted in the 34th minute with a 1-1 draw. The Timbers started the second half with Asprilla, Attinella, Claudio Bravo, Yimmi Chara, Ebobisse, McGraw, Tuiloma, Diego Valeri, Josecarlos Van Rankin, Eryk Williamson and Zambrano.
