TUCSON, Arizona (KGUN) – A major winter storm will bring rain, snow, wind, and cold air to southern Arizona by the end of 2021.

Winter storm monitoring will go into effect Thursday afternoon for altitudes above 7,000 feet.

In the higher mountain areas of east-central and southeastern Arizona, up to 2 feet of snow falls along with winds that can reach up to 40 miles per hour.

Some impressive rainfall will occur in the lower elevations, where amounts between half an inch and an inch are common.

The storm will move out on Saturday morning, leaving some cold air behind.

The Saturday-to-Sunday nighttime lows will fall into the upper 20s even in the Tucson metropolitan area.

Warmer, drier weather is returning early next week.
