Tornado warnings for several counties in eastern Arizona | Phoenix weather

GILA COUNTY, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) — Some tornado warnings were issued in eastern Arizona Tuesday afternoon, but it’s unclear if tornadoes have made landfall. The National Weather Service first issued a warning for areas in Gila and Coconino counties around 2:30 p.m. The warning affected neighborhoods near Christopher Creek in Gila County and Forest Lake Estates in Coconino County. At 2:42 p.m., a severe tornado-producing thunderstorm occurred 7 miles northwest of Forest Lakes. The storm was moving northeast at 30 miles per hour. The tornado warning expired at 3 p.m

A second tornado warning was then issued for parts of eastern Arizona. It includes portions of Navajo and Gila counties near Cibecue and west of Whiteriver. It lasted until 3:30 p.m. The National Weather Service said there may have been chalk-sized hail in the area.

The National Weather Service urged people to take cover and move to a basement during the warning. Officials feared flying debris. It’s unclear how much damage, if any, was reported in those counties.
