Tracksters get busy as state is nearly here – Yuma Pioneer

Yuma High School’s track and field athletes are finally staying plenty busy, and just in time as the Class 2A Track and Field Championships are just one week away.
The Indians had back-to-back meets in Holyoke, late last week, and were at the rescheduled Tom Meyer Invitational in Akron this past Tuesday. (Find results at co.milesplit.com.) They keep it going by traveling to Brush today, May 12, then close out the regular season Friday at the St. Vrain Invitational in Longmont.

“Other than a couple of injuries that have been hanging around, things are looking pretty good,” head coach Lucas Lubbers said. “We are still seeing kids continue to get better toward the end of the season, hopefully enough and in time to make it to State.”
The Indians first went to Holyoke last Friday for the HWAY Invitational.
Final team points were not available with the results, but both the boys and girls teams scored plenty.
For the girls, Myka McDonald won the 1600-meter run with a time of 7 minutes, 1.03 seconds, and Alyssa Roberts was third at 7:17.94.
The 4-by-400 relay team of Braylynn Armstrong, Ashley Ibanez, Hailey Eyring and Lea Richardson took first place in 4:26.77, and the 4-by-800 foursome of Samantha Wells, McDonald, Ibanez and Eyring was second in 11: 29.82.
Back to the open races, Lyndsey Mekelburg was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 18.97 seconds, Armstrong sixth in 19.5, Liddy Day seventh in 19.56, and Jordan Shine eighth in 21.14. Armstrong was fifth in the 300 hurdles in 54.11 seconds, and Day seventh in 55.14. Mackenzie Kucera was sixth in the 100 in 14.65 seconds and sixth in the 400 in 1:15.67, wile Ajanay Aragon was eighth in the 100 in 14.76.
Glanz cleared 4-foot-4 for second in the high jump, Jade Lungwitz 4-2 for fourth, Abril Montes de Oca 4-2 for fifth and Armstrong 4-2 for seventh. Caddis Robinson was fourth in the long jump at 14-2.75, Lungwitz fifth in the triple jump at 28-5, Montes de Oca fourth in the pole vault at 6-11, and Wells eighth in the discus at 89-10.
Nash Richardson won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.5 seconds, and Bridger Lynch was second in 47.59. Richardson was second in the 110 hurdles in 16.74 seconds, Beau Tate third in 17.47, Lynch fourth in 18.67, and Edwin Munoz seventh in 20.41.
Clay Robinson won the 400 in 49.81 seconds, and Mely Gonzalez seventh in 1:01.85. Alex Lozano was second in the 100 in 12.06 seconds, and Jared Wario eighth in 12.92. Wario was fourth the 200 in 26.54 seconds. Kevin Orona took third in the 800 in 2:21.95, and Jiovani Perez fourth in 2:23.55. Liam McClaran ran the 1600 in 5:42.84 for fourth place.
The foursome of Jaxson Lungwitz, Cesar Gamboa, Jonathan Carrillo, and Daman Hernandez won the 4-by-400 relay in 3:42.6.
Richardson cleared 11-11 for second in the pole vault, and Jack Blecha and Trey Stegman tied for sixth at 9-11. Munoz was third in the high jump at 5-4, Jesus Ross fourth at 5-4, and Orona seventh at 5-0.
Kevin Hermosillo put the shot 44-3 for second, and Cesar Varela was eighth at 32-10.5. Forest Rutledge took third in the discus at 124-6, and Hermosillo was fifth at 122-8. Carillo went 18-6.5 in the long jump for fifth, and John Smith was eighth at 17-7.

LPAA Meet
The Indians were back in Holyoke the next day for the LPAA League Meet, which was held in conjunction with the YWKC League Meet. The league meets had been rescheduled from earlier in the week due to poor weather.
Last Saturday, though, was warm and mostly wind free, allowing for a great meet.
Final team points were not available, but it is known Wiggins won the boys title.
Yuma had plenty of great efforts again.
Richardson won the 100 dash in 13.61 seconds, and placed third in the 400 in 1:01.62. Eyring won the 1600 in 6:13.31, and was third in the 800 in 2:43.88. Mekelburg was third in the 100 hurdles in 18.68 seconds, Day seventh in 20.07, and Armstrong eighth in 20.32. Armstrong took fifth in the 300s in 56.54, and Glanz was eighth in 1:00.77. McDonald took fourth in the 3200 in 15:09.94, and Chloe Smith seventh in the 200 in 31.2 seconds.

Mekelburg led in field events by triple jumping 32-1.25 for second place, while Armstrong was fourth at 31-3.75, Richardson fifth at 31-1, and Lungwitz sixth at 29-6.5.
Fatima Duran cleared 8-6 for third in the pole vault, and Montes de Oca went 6-6 for eighth. Montes de Oca was fourth in the high jump at 4-6, Glanz sixth at 4-6, and Lungwitz eighth at 4-4. Nuvia Vega long jumped 13-9.25 for sixth place.
The 800 sprint medley team of Duran, Mekelburg, Robinson and Ibanez placed second in 2:01.59. The 4-by-100 team of Duran, Day, Robinson and Ibanez placed third in 54.42 seconds. The foursome of Lungwitz, Wells, Ibanez and Robinson placed third in the 4-by-200 in 1:56.83, and McDonald, Roberts, Smith and Wells placed third in the 4-by-800 in 12:41.17.
The boys got some wins in the open races.
Robinson won the 100 in 11.48 seconds. Hernandez won the 400 in 52.9 seconds, and Gamboa was eighth in 57.69.
Richardson was second in the 110 hurdles in 17.03 seconds, and Lynch was sixth in 23.57. Richardson also took second in the 300 hurdles in 44.81 seconds, and Lynch was seventh in 49.16. Alex Lozano took fifth in the 200 in 24.94 seconds. Orona was sixth in the 800 at 2:28.49. Gonzalez was sixth in the 1600 in 5:58.14, McClaran seventh in 6:03.82, and Ruben Vega eighth in 6:07.33. McClaran was eighth in the 3200 at 13:16.85.
Robinson won the long jump with a distance of 21-5.25, while Carrillo was second at 19-4.5, Smith sixth at 18-5.75, and Hernandez seventh at 18-1.25.
Jaxson Lungwitz triple jumped 39-7.25 for second, and Richardson was fourth at 38-5.25.
Lynch cleared 10-6 for third in the pole vault, while Blecha was eighth at 10-0. Munoz went 5-2 for fourth in the high jump, while Ross was fifth at 4-2, Orona sixth at 5-0, and Smith seventh at 4-8.
In the throws, Rutledge was sixth in the discus at 122-4, and Hermosillo eighth at 114-4. Hermosillo was eighth in the shot put at 42-9.
The relays racked up some more points.
The foursome of Hernandez, Carrillo, Stegman, and Hermosillo took second in the 4-by-200 in 1:36.09. Orona, Ross, Gamboa and Gonzalez took third in the 4-by-800 in 9:48.06. The 4-by-100 team of Smith, Lozano, Hermosillo and Carrillo placed fifth in 47.07 seconds. The 4-by-400 foursome of Carrillo, Gamboa, Lungwitz and Hernandez placed seventh in 4:42.20.
