‘Tricky winger’ Deri Corfe powers Tucson FC’s goal attack | Tucson FC
Tucson FC interim coach Jon Pearlman said Corfe has been an invaluable member of the club this year and praised his performance against Union Omaha last week. Corfe came off the bench to make his first assist of the season in a 2-1 win at Tucson. The men in black go into the middle of the season with 4-4-5.
“Deri was fantastic,” said Pearlman. “He gave us another quality check.”
Corfe made his American professional debut in 2019, scoring 14 goals in 12 games for the Ocean City Nor’easters and being named Most Valuable Player in USL League Two. The success put Corfe on MLS Draft Radars and the New York Red Bulls selected him with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 SuperDraft. Corfe played the 2020 season with the Red Bulls II, a USL championship team, before it was released in November .
Corfe returned to England and weighed his options. It wasn’t long before he and his agent decided that returning to America was the way to go.
Corfe moved out of his parents’ home at the age of 12 to play for the Manchester City youth development team and graduated from high school in 2016. Corfe moved to the United States and enrolled at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio, playing two seasons there before moving to Wright State. Corfe has scored 40 goals in over 70 college games.
“I’m a tricky winger,” said Corfe. “I like playing one on one against lads and I like getting a lot of shots in the net and scoring goals. I think I can be a pretty entertaining player to watch. “
