Tucson Area Under Ozone Pollution Air Advisor

TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – The Pima County’s Department of the Environment issued a recommendation on ground-level ozone pollution in the Tucson metropolitan area on Tuesday, July 20.

According to the department, people with sensitivity to air pollution may experience shortness of breath, cough, throat irritation, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. Anyone who is active outdoors, has respiratory diseases or is sensitive to this specific pollutant could be affected on Tuesday, the ministry said.

Ozone levels can remain elevated tomorrow if weather conditions persist on Tuesday, according to the ministry.

High levels of ozone can be caused by automobile exhaust, emissions from power plants and industrial plants, gasoline fumes, chemical solvents, and natural sources.

The ministry said ozone pollution could be reduced by reducing driving, refueling vehicles after 6:00 p.m. in the summer, closing gas caps tightly after refueling, avoiding gas-powered landscaping equipment, checking a vehicle’s tire pressures monthly, and saving electricity.
