Tucson Border Patrol agent Daniel Cox died in a frontal crash near Sells
Governor Doug Ducey ordered that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday in honor of U.S. Border Guard agent Daniel P. Cox in Sector Tucson, who was involved in a car accident near Sells on Saturday died.
“Arizona is devastated by the loss of Border Guard agent Daniel Cox,” Ducey said in a statement. “My prayers are with the family of Agent Cox and the South Arizona Police Half-staff during this difficult time in honor of his life, service, and valor.”
Cox, a surveillance Border Patrol agent, was first identified as the agent who died in a head-on collision by a Tucson Sector Border Patrol union NBPC 2544.
Since then, US Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector Interim Chief Patrol Agent, John R. Modlin, confirmed Cox’s death in a tweet on Tuesday.
According to Modlin, Cox served with the United States Border Patrol for 24 years.
According to the Border Patrol and Police, shortly after midnight, Cox was in a head-on collision with another vehicle on State Route 86, east of Sells in Pima County, about 60 miles southwest of Tucson near Tohono O’odham Community College, involved, officials said.
Several agencies, including an air ambulance ambulance, responded to the scene, but both Cox and the person in the other vehicle were found dead by rescue workers, according to Tohono O’odham police.
The incident was being investigated by Tohono O’odham Police.
