The Tucson Chinese Cultural Center brings Tucson’s Asian community together to share their concerns about hate crimes and their safety.

The center is hosting a roundtable Tuesday evening, and the Tucson Police Department’s Street Crime Interdiction Unit is available to answer questions.

The meeting was organized in response to an increase in anti-Asian hate crimes at the national level since the pandemic began.

The national group Stop AAPI Hate reported nearly 3,800 cases of discrimination between March 19, 2020 and February 28, 2021. Stop AAPI Hate is a reporting center that tracks incidents of hate, violence, harassment, and discrimination against Asian Americans, and is responding to them by Pacific Islanders in the United States.

This month’s shootings at three massage companies in the Atlanta area raised concerns about violence against Asians. Eight people were killed in the March 16 shootings, most of them Asians.
