Tucson crash claims one dead and two seriously injured, according to police | Local news

In a car accident on East Aviation Parkway early Friday morning, one person died and two others sustained life-threatening injuries, Tucson police said.

Officers arrived at the scene of the accident shortly before 4 a.m. and found a 1996 Acura 2.5 TL in the dirt area east of the roadway in East Aviation’s 4100 block, police said in a press release. Three people were found outside the car.

The driver, Jose Guillermo Mendez-Orduno, 23, died on the scene, the press release said. Authorities took the two passengers to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mendez-Orduno was driving east at high speed and was unable to negotiate a curve, causing the car to hit a curb and overturn, police said.

All three people were unbuckled and were thrown from the car, the press release said.

An investigation is in progress.
