Tucson elementary schoolers host pet food drive

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – Students at a small southwest side school have been busy and today all of their hard work paid off.

A week-long pet food drive came to an end this afternoon at Warren Elementary School near Valencia and Mission Roads, close to the Pascua Yaqui Reservation.

It’s a small, title 1 school, with less than 200 students.

The idea came from a trip to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, where the kids go to a program called Starbase, which requires a community service project.

They collected just shy of 1,000 pounds of pet food.

The dog food will go to Animal Crusaders of Arizona to feed dogs on the reservation and the cat food will benefit the Finally My Forever Home cat rescue.

Ms. Keller’s second grade class collected the most food and won a pizza party for their hard work.
