Tucson medical worker tests positive for COVID-19 three times | Messages

TUCSON (KVOA) — A local woman shares her story after testing positive for COVID-19 multiple times.

Stephanie Brennan’s journey has certainly been an arduous journey. She said her worst fear is testing positive again.

“I don’t think COVID is going anywhere,” she said. “I think there’s a good possibility it’ll happen again.”

Brennan, who works in the medical field, says she has tested positive for COVID-19 three times.

“Had shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, fever, chills,” she said. “I had a little tightness in my chest. I was sick for just over a week.”

Brennan, who is fully vaccinated, says she first tested positive in June 2020 when she lost her taste and smell. The second time was in December 2021 and last tested positive in early January.

“The most I’ve heard so far is two,” she said. “But I’m sure there are people who have had it more than that.”

The issue of breakthrough cases is of great interest to the scientific community at the University of Arizona.

They try to determine whether variants or the level of immunity are reasons for reinfection.

“People shouldn’t be comfortable getting COVID with the idea that they’re going to be fine because it’s their third time,” said Elizabeth Connick, UArizona’s director of infectious diseases. “We don’t know what the next variant around the corner will be.”

With so many unknowns surrounding the Omicron variant, health experts are advising the public to continue to mask and get vaccinated.
