Tucson Police Department: Rider Charged with Murder That Kills a Motorcyclist | Local news

A pickup truck driver is charged with second degree murder in connection with an accident that killed a motorcyclist, Tucson police said.

At around 4 p.m. Thursday, police officers were called to a traffic accident at the intersection of East Broadway and North Kolb Road.

Police said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as James Bruce Minish, 64.

Traffic detectives discovered that Minish was stopped at a red light in the middle lane on Kolb. While waiting for the lights to change, Minish’s 2005 Honda motorcycle was hit from behind by a 2001 Toyota Tundra.

The tundra continued into the curb lane, where it struck a Toyota Corolla in 2007. That caused a chain reaction accident involving two other vehicles, police said. In the second crash, minor injuries were reported.

A DUI officer determined that the tundra’s driver, Kenneth Marvin Deeter, 35, was compromised at the time of the crash. There was evidence that impairment and excessive speed contributed to the crash.

Deeter was sent to Pima County Jail. The investigation continues.

This is the 13th traffic death in Tucson this year, compared with 17 at that time last year. Three of the fatalities that year were motorcyclists.
