Tucson-based, eegee’s iconic fast food chain popular for its signature fruit-flavored frozen drinks and ranch fries has opened its first Valley location in Gilbert. The restaurant at 3535 E. Baseline Road will be open to eat and take away with drive-through service, online ordering and contactless pickup.
Eegee’s was founded in 1971 by Edmund Irving and Robert Greenberg. The friends pooled their resources and bought a used vending truck, which they used to serve frozen lemon drinks at local events. They called the drinks “eegee’s”, a combination of their initials (“e” from Edmund and “g” from Greenberg) to create the name. In 1972 they opened their first restaurant. Today, eegee’s has cultivated a local following of Arizonans and has 28 locations across the state: in the greater Tucson area, in Casa Grande and now in Gilbert.

In addition to the frozen drinks that give it its name, eegee’s offers a full menu that includes its specialty French fries with ranch dressing and bacon; the original grinder on white, wheat or rye bread, freshly baked every day; Salads like the Southwest Chipotle Ranch Chicken; and more. All food is produced in Tucson.
Frozen drinks – more of a desert, as the ice-cold preparations with real fruit pieces are so thick that they have to be consumed with a spoon instead of a straw – come in lemon, strawberry, pina colada and skinny berry; as well as a changing menu with monthly flavors such as Lucky Lime, Watermelon and Orange Dream.
Tucsonans have long known that the icy drinks are great mixers for spirits. On the occasion of the opening of the Gilbert site, eegee’s has teamed up with Valley Mixologist and Beverage Director of Fox Restaurant Concepts, Mat Snapp, to create bespoke cocktails known as Teekees. Recipes are published on eegee’s Instagram all of August.
Eegee plans to open a second location in Gilbert by the end of 2021 and to open additional restaurants in Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale.
