Tuesday Marks 22 Years Since Former Flagstaff Police Officer Jeff Moritz Was Killed In The Line Of Duty – KAFF News – Flagstaff

Tuesday marks 22 years since the death of Flagstaff Police Officer Jeff Moritz. He was fatally shot during the early morning hours of June 21st, 2000 after responding to a noise complaint. Several residents called police to report a pickup truck was repeatedly driving up and down the street with loud music playing from the truck. Several minutes later, Officer Moritz made an emergency broadcast saying he had been shot. Several people in the neighborhood administered CPR, but he was pronounced dead at Flagstaff Medical Center. He was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time, but one round hit him in the left shoulder and severed an artery. Flagstaff Police ask the community to remember Officer Moritz as he was a man of courage, bravery and had a kind spirit. Moritz was the first officer with the Flagstaff Police Department to have been killed in the line of duty.
