(Reuters) – Twitter Inc is trying to join the world of profitable online shopping so that companies can showcase the products they sell at the top of their profile page. The network company announced on Wednesday.

The San Francisco-based company is following in the footsteps of larger competitor Facebook Inc., which last year introduced a “shop” feature that allows consumers to purchase products directly from Facebook and Instagram.

Twitter has announced that it will test new shopping functions in the US with “some brands”.

Users can scroll through the product carousel at the top of the brand profile. Customers can tap the product and then pay through the retailer’s website.

This test is a new attempt to offer shopping on Twitter. The company tried the “Buy Now” button and the product page back in 2015.
