The chapter announced the recipients on Thursday. There were more than 30 qualified candidates, all vying for a chance at one of the prestigious scholarships.

A full list of recipients and biographies can be found here.

YumaCats Scholarship Committee Chairman Gay Thrower said the opportunity to interview candidates in person again this year was much more enjoyable for the committee. We missed hosting the Scholarship BBQ in honor of the Scholarship recipients, but we expect to return to that tradition next spring. Thrower said she was so excited that these outstanding students from the Yuma region will again have the opportunity to relive the full UA experience, including all the memories that still bring a smile to YumaCats’ faces.

The Scholarship Committee has been awarding scholarships to local high school and transfer students for over 30 years. Thanks to local sponsors, a total of $ 1,298,700 was given to 793 of the brightest students in the Yuma region. To see a full list of all of the YumaCats’ scholarships, click here.

Each member of the committee spent more than 40 hours interviewing all candidates. The scholarship committee consists of Raquel Isaacson, Cori Rico, Ernesto Romero, Mary Jo Smith, Chase Thompson, Gay Thrower, and Lucy Valencia.
