Mercedes was born in San Diego and grew up in the California border town of Calexico. She hails from the Imperial Valley and is definitely no stranger to Yuma County.
Mercedes began her journalistic career at San Jose State University when she was on their campus newscast, which aired every Friday, joined El Espartano Noticias, and was an on-air talent for the 2017 San Jose Film Festival. Her highlight during that time was the opportunity to interview actress Jane Lynch.
Mercedes then continued her journey to CSU Sacramento, where she received her BA in Journalism and a minor in Communication Studies. She interned at Telemundo in Sacramento to gain experience and build relationships.
Mercedes believes everyone has a story and should use their voice to tell it and inspire others.
Outside of work, Mercedes spends time with her friends and family. She is passionate about cooking, baking, traveling, playing the guitar and writing songs.
