Volunteers are sought in Yuma, Casa Grande to transport veterans to Tucson clinics | Local news
The Tucson VA Medical Center requires volunteer drivers at Yuma and Casa Grande to transport veterans to and from medical appointments in Tucson.
The drivers would use vans serviced by the Veterans Administration to transport veterans to outpatient clinics at the medical center, officials said in a press release.
“Our goal is to have a driver for every day of the week,” said Catherine Starr, VA Medical Center Volunteer Specialist. She said additional drivers will be needed at this point to cover vacationers and fill vacancies created by volunteer winter visitors who have returned home.
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, up-to-date proof of insurance, a safe driving report, and a clear background check. Applicants are also required to take a physical exam.
Volunteers are entitled to free meals, the COVID-19 vaccination, annual flu vaccinations, and other benefits from Tucson VA’s volunteer recognition program, officials said.
“Volunteering for those who have served our nation is the perfect way for each of us to support our veterans and say thank you,” said Mandy Martell, director of the Center for Development & Civic Engagement.
