Weathers wins two titles, sets record, Jefferson wins two – Yuma Pioneer

Lone Star graduate Alivia Weathers concluded her outstanding high school track and field career in style, this past week at the Class 1A Track and Field Championships at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.
Weathers won all four of her events last year, and followed that up with two championships and two second-place efforts in the snow-delayed 2022 meet.

Her efforts, along with fellow senior Lamya Kuntz, propelled the Longhorns to 44 points and a seventh-place finish in the 1A team standings. Heritage Christian cruised to the 1A girls title with 124 points, well ahead of second-place Merino’s 77.
Weathers set a 1A state record in the triple jump on Saturday with a winning distance of 35-foot-3.25.
She also won the pole vault last Thursday with a height of 10-1. Kuntz pushed her the whole way as she finished second at 9-10.

Lone Star had held its graduation the previous week, so there was no conflict for Weathers to stick around for Sunday’s delayed conclusion — thanks to Friday’s schedule being postponed. She placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.71 seconds, and second in the long jump with a distance of 15-4.
The Lone Star boys came away with 17 points and a 14th-place finish.
Abraham Martinez cleared 11-9 to place third in the pole vault on Sunday. Wyatt Cochran placed in two events, taking sixth on Thursday in the shot put with a heave of 41-3.75, then on Saturday placing fourth in the discus with a distance of 131-8.
