Weber Long, Dakota Arana claim events in Roddick Invitational – THE SPORTS PAGE

SHIPPENSBURG — The 95th edition of the Jack Roddick Invitational was held Saturday at Shippensburg University and area athletes picked up a number of high finishes.

There were two first-place finishes in the boys events — Weber Long of Greencastle-Antrim captured the 1600 in 4:11.05, while Shippensburg’s Dakota Arana, the reigning PIAA state champion, hit a personal best and school record height of 6-11 to win the event handily.

Chambersburg captured a pair of good finishes in the hurdles events, as Michael Kelly ran 15.31 in the 110 hurdles for third place and Edis Korkutovic was timed at 40.43 in the 300 hurdles for fifth place.

For Greencastle, Dalton Noblit took third in the 2000 steeplechase, as the Blue Devils tied for ninth in the team race..

Shippensburg had a number of other top finishes to end up tied for fifth in the team standings, including Connor Landreth (3rd in high jump, 6-2), Spencer Edey (4th in long jump, 20-11.75) and Traevon Kater (4th in triple jump , 43-1.75).

For the girls, Shippensburg’s Jillian Sydnor placed third in both the 100 (12.60) and the 400 (56.29) races. Her 400 time broke her own school record.

Claire Paci of Greencastle ran 5:05.63 to take third in the 1600 event, and her time of 2:17.60 was good enough for fifth in the 800.

For Chambersburg, Kate Etter captured fourth in the long jump with an effort of 16-11.5, while Camryn Kiser also had a top-five finish, taking fifth in the 3200 in 11:00.20.
