Secretary General Bonnie Shock recalls receiving a call from an artist less than a week after starting a new job in March last year.
“They contacted me on my first day and said they couldn’t do that anymore.”
She had just moved out of Minnesota and was eager to book a gig on Fox.
“Nobody talked about a rejection. The shift was everything. Soon everything turned into a snowball. “

It pulled us all apart and emptied the Fox Theater stage.
“So I went back to Minnesota.”
Shot’s life went on, like most of us, but Fox had 13 full-time employees, dozen part-time employees, and many more contract workers out of work. ..
“A fox-like building costs about $ 50,000 a month.”
The money came from federal small business loans and local donations of over $ 1 million, according to Schock.
“People keep supporting us, which is why it worked for Fox.”
The theater relies on funding from Washington’s largest investment in the arts, the Shuttered Venue Operator Grant.
With those funds, Wright could re-invite strangers, Shock said.
“The ability to come together and share the joy that can only be gained through the experience of sharing with other artists.”
