DUDLEYVILLE – All of the homes in the small town of Dudleyville, Pinal County, were evacuated Thursday afternoon after wildfire broke out and burned at least two buildings.

Authorities said it was unclear how the fire started, but it quickly grew to around 150 acres and forced evacuations.

County sheriff officials said 74 buildings were in the evacuation zone, which was home to 243 residents.

There were no immediate reports of injuries and an emergency shelter was set up for the evacuees at Ray High School in Kearny.

Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management officials said the devastating fire burned thick tamarisk trees in the river’s bottom.

About 75 firefighters fought the flames from the ground while air tankers dropped gallons of water and fire retardants.

Dudleyville is a census-listed location of about 1,000 residents on Highway 77, about 60 miles north of Tucson.

The mining town was the site of a devastating fire in July 2017 that charred nearly 1,200 acres and destroyed several buildings, including houses.
