Wreaths Across America to hold Yuma fundraiser Saturday

The lasagna dinner at the DAV will help put 3,000 wreaths on local veteran graves this December

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) – Every December, local representatives for Wreaths Across America hope to put a wreath on every veteran grave in Yuma County.

Around 3,000 graves need to be covered this year between Desert Lawn Memorial Park and Sunset Vista in the Foothills.

So tomorrow on October 15, Wreaths Across America is holding a lasagna dinner fundraiser at the local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 11 on 13th avenue.

The event goes from 4 pm to 7 pm, dinner is $10 and a wreath is $15.

Local veterans say they appreciate the yearly effort to honor the veterans no longer with us.

“For me, it’s in the heart. Even though the veteran is gone, we’re doing something for them. To remember them, even if they’re gone,” Local veteran Chop Rodriguez said.

Winnie Moir, the local Wreaths Across America chair says she hopes to build on the success of last year’s fundraiser.

“Last year was the first year we raised enough money to cover every grave, here in Yuma we’ve also been number one in Arizona the last two years,” Moir said.

The event is at the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 at 954 S 13th Avenue.

If you can’t make the dinner but still wish to pitch in you can donate to Wreaths Across America here.
