Yuma Airshow 2022 canceled – KYMA

Several reasons for the cancellation are considered

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – On December 31, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma command announced the cancellation of the 2022 Yuma Airshow due to recent coronavirus-related developments.

New variants related to COVID-19 are an important consideration for the Air Station as the future of public health and safety is uncertain.

“We were unfortunately forced to cancel our air show last year due to the threat to public health and safety posed by COVID-19,” said Col. Chuck Dudik, commanding officer of MCAS Yuma. “This year, the effects of the pandemic hit us in other ways as well.”

Finances are another reason for cancellation as the prices of goods in Arizona have increased and it also affects labor shortages.

“We look forward to the air show every year to give back to the members of the community and invite them to demonstrate our military capabilities,” continued Dudik. “We also need to consider what’s best for the mission, and with a large number of Marines arriving for training around March, we just can’t accept the risk.”
