Yuma Boys Golf continues to improve – Yuma Pioneer
Yuma High School’s boys’ golf team is making steady progress through the 2021 season.
“We got better from tournament to tournament, always better,” said coach Benjamin Weathers.
The Indians finished seventh out of 14 teams with 297 points. Sterling won the team title with a 234.
Nash Richardson led the tribe with a 97 while Brekyn Josh had a 98, John Smith 102 and JJ Ward 112.
The tribe then hosted the Yuma Invitational at Indian Hills Golf Course and finished fifth out of 13 teams with a 283. The Frontier Academy of Greeley won the team title with a 249.
Josh and Smith shot tied for the highest Yuma honors with every 90s bounty. Richardson had a 103 and Kyle Scheutz had a 108. Ward shot a 113, Jayden Serl 121, Brodie Castillo 127, and Ty Remmich 127.Nash Richardson
Yuma attended the Sun Devil Invitational in Kent Denver at the Saddle Rock Golf Course. The Indians shot a team rating of 326 and finished in 21st place. Arapahoe won the team title with a 208.
Jack Blecha made his season debut and ended with a 103, while Smith shot a 111, Andre Baucke a 112 in his season debut and Scheutz a 125.
Yuma next played at the Akron Invitational at Washington County Golf Club, finishing third of six with a 296. Josh shot a 95, Richardson a 96, Scheutz 105 and Ward 106. In the JV tournament, Yuma finished second when Castillo shot a 104, Kaleb Jones 104, Will Noble 112 and Noah Hansen 117.
Weathers brought the roster to Burlington last Tuesday, August 17th, where the university finished fourth in the 10-team field with a 289. Cheyenne Wells won the team title with a 268. Blecha shot a 90, Smith 96, Richardson 103 and Schütz 111 Yuma finished fourth in the JV tournament. Baucke shot a 101, Parker Dressel 102, Castillo 111 and Noble 111. Hansen also shot a 117, Nathaniel Etl 118, Lars Sims 119 and Remmich 123.
Brekyn JoshYuma took a varsity to the Eaton Invitational last Thursday and finished 21st in the 25 team field with a 282. Windsor shot a 223 for the team title. Josh and Blecha both shot a 93, Richardson a 96 and Ward 102.
The Indians were back at the Cheyenne Wells Invitational at the Smoky River Golf Club last Friday. They were fifth out of eight teams with a 322. Cheyenne Wells won with a 238. Ward led Yuma with a 96 when he first cracked the 100, while Noble had a 109, Jones 117 and Scheutz 118. (Most uni Players were not available because they had a soccer team in Denver that day.) The Yuma JV shot a 314 while Castillo had a 101, Remmich 104 and Hansen 109.
Weathers noted that the varsity line had been juggled a bit due to players with football commitments, but found that players were improving.
“I think by and large it has gone pretty well so far,” he said.
The Indians were at the Frontier Academy tournament in Greeley on Wednesday and Estes Park on Thursday, August 26th, then to Holyoke on Friday. You are at the Strasbourg tournament on Tuesday.
