Yuma County collects more than 800 bottles of water for first responders

Firehouse Subs restaurants across the country hosted their annual H2O for Heroes campaign over the weekend

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Each year, more than 1,200 Fire Department Submarines band together to provide assistance to local first responders. And when the temperature rises, there is no greater need than water.

So on August 7, 2021, the restaurants called on the public to donate water boxes. In return, the donors received a medium sub. Unfortunately, the campaign was discontinued at the height of the 2020 pandemic.

In 2019, Firehouse Subs restaurants collected more than 2 million bottles of water which were distributed to the area’s fire and police departments. Yuma County alone collected more than 800 bottles of water that year.

Firehouse Subs was founded in Florida in 1994 by two brothers who were both firefighters. Since then, the Sorensen brothers and their FireHouse Subs Public Safety Foundation have donated more than $ 60 million in equipment, training, and support.

This equipment ranges from turning equipment (fire-resistant clothing), thermal imaging cameras, and off-road vehicles.
