Yuma Emergency Room Nurse Officially Charged with Sexual Assault and Abuse on 10 Cases
Police say incidents have occurred at YRMC
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Yuma Regional Medical Center ambulance officer Jose Arias, 35, who was accused of sexually abusing three victims, was formally charged on 10 counts today. Charges against Arias include sexual assault, sexual abuse, and abuse of vulnerable adults.
After several alleged assaults, the police occurred in the hospital from December last year to August this year, according to the police. Nobody would have known if a victim hadn’t come forward and shared their nightmare with the police.
“He was arrested at the YRMC, 2400 South Avenue A. We have several victims from December 2020 to August 2021,” said Lori Franklin, sergeant of the Yuma Police Department.
News 11’s Arlette Yousif previews the Arias indictment in this livestream report:
Arias’ defense attorney says Arias has no criminal record and should be released with an ankle shackle.
“He comes from a large Mexican-American family with significant roots here and there is no intention or intention to leave. He wants to address these allegations and address this case head on,” said defense attorney Kristopher Caifano.
The allegations are fierce. According to police, the last alleged attack occurred earlier this month. We would like to point out that the details listed below are graphics.
Court documents show that the defendant “knowingly had sexual intercourse or oral sexual contact without consent”.
Another charge alleges that the defendant “touched, stroked, or manipulated the victim’s genitals,” but prosecutors say Arias is an escape risk, citing that he is accused of molesting people in their most vulnerable condition.
“Given the long prison terms this defendant faces, and the proximity to the border and the state of California, this makes the defendant’s situation significant. It makes him an escape risk,” said District Attorney Dallin Marcy.
The defense attorney says Arie is studying to become a nurse and hopes to clear his name. A victim attorney asked the judge to keep Arias in prison. I contacted YRMC, they say they have no further comment at this time as the investigation is still open.
Arias is being held on a $ 1 million cash bond and is expected to be on trial again on August 24th.
