Yuma’s NAACP President invites everyone to his anniversary celebration

Eleanor Sayles wants everyone, especially children, to come out and have fun

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – With the exception of 2020, the Juneteenth was celebrated every year. For the most part, the event will take place in Carver Park in the west end of Yuma.

The event brings people from all walks of life and of all races together. It is a day of unity and hope.

This year the Juneteenth Celebration takes place in Carver Park (13th Avenue & 3rd Street). The Yuma Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said it was cautious that the event would take place.

NAACP President Eleanor Sayles had been looking for sponsors and came up short. But in the last hour, local lawyer and philanthropist Candy Camerena sponsored the raffle for the event.

Nova Home Loans also stepped in to provide entertainment for the event.

Sayles wants the public to know that Juneteenth is an American holiday. This year the event focuses on our youth and educates them about the rich history of our country.

The event starts at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m.
