The head of the Yuma Border Patrol says cartels benefit from migrants crossing the border
In Yuma, Border Patrol agents handle 200 to 500 people every day along the 126 km long border with Mexico. About 105 of those miles have been reconstructed using fences that are between 18 and 30 feet high. Chris Clem, Head of the Yuma Border Patrol, spoke about enforcement trends in the area and how cartels benefit from the arrival of large groups at the border.
Arizona 360 also learned more about the Yuma County Sheriffs Office’s role in border security from Sheriff Leon Wilmot. Wilmot discussed how the National Guard also supports his office and why he fears that a potential increase in border crime could drain resources.
