11.2 pounds of meth blown up by drug dog | Latest news
HOLBROOK – Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse apparently never tires of thanking one of his clearly outstanding deputies with more than two legs.
“A big thank you to (K9 deputy) Zolton and his handler for this excellent police work. Zotlon has continued to cause tremendous seizures and support our mission to get these dangerous drugs out of our county, “said Clouse of Zolton’s recent success.
This time, Zolton sniffed 11.2 pounds of meth in a spare tire during a routine traffic stop.
Michael Witt, 49, and Cristina Homelius, 25, both from Florida, were arrested on multiple drug charges and are currently being held in Navajo County Jail in Holbrook for transporting dangerous drugs and possessing dangerous drugs on $ 50,000 each for drugs Selling and possession of dangerous drugs.
Witt and Homelius were stopped on Interstate 40 at Milepost 273 outside of Joseph City on an alternate Sunday, March 20, at around 1:17 p.m.
I-40 in northern Arizona has the dubious nickname “Highway of Crime”.
Finding what he felt was suspicious behavior after stopping Witt and Homelius, the MP deployed Zolton, who quickly drew attention to 18.7 grams of meth allegedly found in Homelius’ belongings.
“Evidence of drug sales was also discovered,” said a press release from NCSO information officer Tori Gorman.
Finding the 18.7 grams of meth likely gave the deputy reason to call in the Major Crimes Apprehension Team to continue searching.
They ordered the vehicle to be taken to the NCSO offices, where detectives reportedly found the 11.2 pounds of meth in the spare tire.
The street value of 11.2 pounds of meth is conservatively estimated at $ 400,000.
