The Grit Couple of Edge and Beth Phoenix defeat It Couple Miz and Maryse in a non-title mixed tag team match at the Royal Rumble.
This low stakes match depends heavily on whether you like these two pairings or not, but the contenders provided us with a quick and fun mixed tag match that helped fans regain energy from the previous match prior to the Royal Rumble of the fuel men.
The women started the game, but the cowardly Maryse had no choice but to substitute his husband. The Miz and Edge faced off, but Maryse kept sneaking punches into Edge to give The Miz the advantage. After too many interruptions, the Glamazon decided to take matters into her own hands and chased Maryse away with a steel chair. The distraction allowed Edge to make a signature move onto The Miz, resulting in a two-count. Fallen Miz searched for his wife and tagged her to face Beth Phoenix.
The Glamazon totally dominated Maryse, but The Miz interrupted a pin for a two count. The interruption didn’t sit well with Beth, who then took on The Miz. Beth also totally dominated the Hollywood star, but Maryse snuck into a purse with a brick in it, the same brick they used to attack the grit couple last month. Maryse then punches Beth from behind, knocking her unconscious. Maryse covers but only manages a two count. Maryse then dominates the match for a while, but Beth manages to counter with a double clothesline to force the duo to switch in their male partners.
At this point, the energy rose, with Edge gaining the upper hand. However, Edge is again distracted by Maryse, giving The Miz the advantage. Beth had enough and went over the ring to elbow Maryse. Edge and The Miz were at the top turnbuckle at this point and Maryse took the opportunity to powerbomb The Miz. This allowed Edge to hit a flying elbow on The Miz, but that only resulted in a two count.
Maryse would attack Beth outside, throwing her against the steel steps and knocking her out. But back in the ring, Edge hit The Miz with a flap jacket. Edge tries to attack The Miz, but Maryse distracts him again, allowing her to hit a Hurricanrana at Edge. Beth tries to intervene but is repelled by Maryse. The Miz hits his least devastating finisher, The Skull-Crushing Finale, but also only resulted in a two count. The Miz and Maryse tried to give Edge a double final, but Beth got to the parade just in time. The Grit Couple then double speared The Miz, which Miz sold spectacularly. The two then lifted their respective opponents and hit them with a synchronized glam slam that allowed Edge to cover the pin.
